MONICA LONCOLA
Artist Statement
My work moves fluidly between the expansive and the intimate details of my subject matter. I explore both the exterior and the interior, the macro and the micro. I am drawn to the intricate systems through which species adapt, protect themselves, and ultimately survive. Nature reveals itself as a form of organized chaos—complex and rhythmic, governed by its own quiet cycles.
I research my subjects from multiple perspectives, allowing sustained observation to guide the work. Once a particular element captures my attention, I return to it repeatedly, creating numerous iterations that deepen my understanding of its form and significance. Through this process, these rendered images often evolve beyond representation, becoming metaphors for the human condition.
I work in digital and traditional media, selecting each medium for its unique possibilities. In sharing my personal space of observation, my intention is to stir curiosity for a call to action to conserve our natural resources for future generations.
